The Blahs of Parenting

6

As much as I have been a winter person my entire life, I’m beginning to experience the side effects of living in the Midwest. I use to love cold weather… hanging out in coffeeshops, snuggling and skiing. But now that I am a parent, my perspective on it all has drastically changed.

Since Christmas, my son Zach has been in the hospital with a severe virus and dehydration, then a few weeks back wrestled with the 24 hour flu, and just this past weekend was nailed with a 105 degree fever, which has since turned into a Croup cough, and now total congestion and a runny nose.

Have I mentioned how much I am looking forward to warmer weather?

I’m sorry about Zach, it sounds like quite a rough patch. I imagine Zach is like most young kids, tough and resilient, so I’m betting he’ll come out of it quickly. Kids always amaze me in their ability to bounce back and deal with illness so courageously.

You may one day get back to the point where you like that winter weather again. I was talking with my parents the other day, who had been out sledding in the snow and single-digit temperatures of upstate NY! They had a grand old time, so it may take you twenty years go get back to that place, but there’s hope!

Hope he feels better soon and hope BG & SG don’t catch anything. I think that’s the worst part of parenting… catching all the sicknesses the kids bring home.

  3. @ Rob - In a few years we’ll be taking him to Winter Park, no worries! :)

@ Lis - Neither one of us has it yet, thank God. I’ve been pretty lucky so far this year, must be good IMMUNITY.

And just think. In about 60 years, he’ll be saying the same thing about you.lol Hope he gets to feeling much better!

  6. Thanks John, things are getting better! :) Lis, I bet you can’t wait for tomorrow night!
