In a world where we complain about the availability of mobile devices and the lack of fast internet speed, there is nearly a billion people in developing nations who don’t have clean water to drink.
How’s that for a sobering way to put things into perspective?
I don’t think I need to go much further to get your attention, and now that I (hopefully) have it I’d like to pitch an interestng idea — one where you can make a difference while at the same time getting something back.
The Gift of Giving
For those of you who have followed me over the years, you may remember that Shelly and I have walked the Susan G. Komen 3-Day for the Cure for the past 10 years. It is a 60-mile walk over the course of a weekend and raises money for breast cancer research.
It’s always been important for me to help when I can, and this was the last year the event was held in Chicago. Which means I’m looking for another way to give and think I found it.
Opening the Door
Ever since I became a partner at Copyblogger Media, I have closed the door to freelance work. It’s been tough to say no at times, but the reality is that I have a commitment to my company which always comes first.
However, charitable causes are considered the exception to the rule, which means if you’ve been interested in hiring me this is your chance.
Well, you’re not actually hiring me, you see — as I’m not going to be the one taking your money. Let’s just call this creative bartering.
Making a Difference
Over the course of the next few months, I am opening up three hours a week of my time to go towards this noble cause. These hours will be first come, first served — or in this case, first donated.
I have made it a personal goal to raise $5,000 for Charity Water, and I’d like to invite you to help me achieve this.
You can use your hour in any way you wish. This can be a Skype (or phone) call to discuss your business, to talk about internet strategy or simply to critique, customize or perform a code audit on a Genesis theme.
I will be posting my availability on this offer below, and will promise to keep updated as donations come it. I’m limiting it to three hours a week, but if the demand exceeds the supply, I’ll consider adding more.
And Now the Details
All you need to do is make a donation of $200 to my Charity Water project and I will get in touch with you right away to schedule the hour of my time. If you make a $350 donation, you’ll receive 2 hours of my time.
After the donation is made, drop me a note on my contact page with your email address so I am able to reach out to you.
Consider the going rate of a social media expert, consultant or a freelance web developer, the $200 donation presents a ton of value. It’s important to me that I raise the $5,000, so I wanted to make an offer you can’t refuse.
With that said, let’s kick off this campaign and see what we can do.
Even if you choose not to donate, spreading the news is extremely helpful and appreciated. Click here to tweet about this great cause!
