The Revolution Affiliate Program Officially Launches
Well it’s finally here - the Revolution WordPress theme affiliate program has finally launched, and is now available for people to sign up. It’s been a pretty painful process in terms of deciding which route is the best way to go, and I want to thank all of you who expressed your comments and concerns regarding the program.
I want to start out by saying that I’ve chosen to go with E-junkie with the affiliate program. Although I really wanted to go with Linkshare, I decided that it wasn’t worth the significant amount of money that they required from me to sign up.
I realized that Linkshare (and others like Commission Junction) are primarily designed for high volume retailers, and that is one thing I am not. For those who were really on board with me potentially going the Linkshare route, I apologize, but my time and money will be better spent developing and supporting the Revolution theme family.
As noted before, the commission pay will be as follows:
- 25% of a Single Use package - $79.95 = $20.00 to you
- 25% of a Multiple Use package - $199.95 = $50.00 to you
- 25% of a Developer package - $399.95 = $100.00 to you
I am really excited to announce the program has begun and look forward to working with you all to further the development of the Revolution themes, and to take WordPress to a higher level.
So don’t waste any more time, go ahead and sign up to become an official Revolution theme affiliate program member!

Agreed.
Brian: I spent a lot of time searching for a WP theme that would showcase my business as well as incorporate some blog functionality.
It was easy to find those that are geared for advertising, affiliate sales and the like - but very few that suited my needs straight out of the box.
Your Revolution series fit my needs very well and is remarkably easy to tweak (even despite my meagre CSS hard coding skills). A few more tweaks and I’d be stoked if it could be included in your Showcase.
Am looking forward to more great things here - be encouraged.
Regan - thanks so much for the encouragement. I really like what you did with your site, and thank you for your support!
Brian, you know I love Revolution, and I can’t think of a better way to support you in this effort than to help you sell a few more themes. I’ve added the banner to the top of my site. I hope it sends a few customers your way!
Nathan
Nathan - thanks so much for your support. (and if it makes you feel better, in response to a post you made a few weeks ago) one of the next things on my to-do list is to go back and release my previous two BG.com themes as free themes.
Yeah, that post ruffled a few feathers, but I stand by it. I’m all for making some money, but giving back with no strings is the way to go to get that respect.
But that’s no secret to you. I’m sure you’d agree that you are where you are today because of giving back via free themes. And that’s the way it should be.
The community thanks you and the people you’ve inspired!
Yep thanks Nathan. I figured that releasing 12 free themes, and spending hundreds of hours supporting them warranted me a break from it - but I know it’s important to also provide the free ones as well!
Hi, Leo Laporte mentioned you and your theme on his latest TWiT or MacBreak podcast. My problem is I can’t think of the guest that said he used your Revolution theme. I wanted to see his to see how it looks and performs. I’m using Rin. Thank you,
Whit - sorry I can’t help you on that one, because I didn’t hear it. If you want to see the themes in action, take a look at the showcase page.

In response to Nate: I agree …somewhat.
Providing freebies (in any business) is always a good practice. But IMO the “best” freebies usually occur when the giver isn’t under any pressure to do so.
I donate a fair amount of musical equipment each year through my online business. To be honest it’s a thrill when I do it - because the recipient usually doesn’t expect it.
It’s much harder to serve those who ask (demand) for freebies with the same amount of enthusiasm when it wasn’t our 1st intention.
I was happy to pay the Revolution price - it’s a great value.
Brian, this is great! I’m sure most of your Revolution users feel the same and look forward to helping spread the word.
Regan - thanks, and I’m glad you see it as great value!
Joe - I hope so too. It would be fun to see how successful this program ends up becoming!
Thanks for designing such great Wordpress themes! I have gotten so many complements on my blog and plan to use your themes for other blogs that I own.
I signed up for your affiliate program - thanks a bunch for getting it going. Keep up the good work.
I actually have a question for you I’m hoping you can help with. Realize you are very busy, but having a little CSS stress since I am new to customizing Wordpress templates.
Hopefully this is simple. See my blog - attempting to change the grey colour to a dark brown (just to test it to see how it looks) but ran into the issue with the images used for the header. So I customized the images to have the new colour, put them back into the images folder of the theme (replacing the original URLs with the ones with the new colour) and what do you know but for some reason the sides of the header disappeared… I tried to replace it but that did not work either. Upon examining the CSS closely I cannot see where the problem has occurred…
Not sure if you will be able to get to this question but I thought I would give asking a shot, anyway. If anyone else reads this and has any insight please let me know…
Sorry, never mind! I think I just have to get the colours of the images right in Photoshop and it should work… I’m going to continue to fiddle. Sorry to bother you!
Regan,
I hear ya.
My point was that since WordPress is built and distributed for free, it’s safe to assume that you can certainly make money from it, but you should follow suit by giving back as well if you want to gain respect.
Think about Linux. Red Hat has distributed their own version of Linux for a good bit of money, but at the same time, they contribute to the Fedora project as well. If you do nothing but leech of the community for profit without ever giving back, you’ve lost my respect.
It’s not just about making money. In most cases you don’t need to give back, but if you are dependent on the work of others (like most of us WordPress themers are dependent on the WP developers), then it’s best to contribute your own part. It just makes sense.
Nathan - good words. One thing I will say is that even with the sale of premium themes, WP (and Automattic) is getting something. I have received a ton of emails from people saying that they were going to use another platform until they saw Revolution. This isn’t to toot my own horn, but to point out that WP and Automattic benefits from the sale of mine (and others’) premium themes. They gain WP users that they wouldn’t normally have gotten.
Brian-just so you’ll know, the Revolution Theme is the ONLY reason I switched from another blog platform. Most of the blog themes available today are nothing more than one rehash after another of the same old boring stuff - sidebar right, sidebar left, sidebar both, pick another color (yawn).
Your Revolution series raises the bar (which is a good thing) and is extremely customizable - even for someone new to WP. I’m really looking forward to getting up to the point where I can push this theme to the limits.
Just signed up… gonna get started promoting ASAP!
Brian and others,
That’s a really good point. If WordPress had nothing but the K2 theme, or just a bunch of crappy ones, no one would use it. I think WordPress owes a great deal of its success to theme authors, and especially to theme authors that utilize all that WordPress offers, like Revolution.
