So I’m a Pompous, Yuppie Web Designer
Confession time.
I never thought I’d see the day where I’d be sitting at a Panera Bread with my notebook posting on my blog. Granted, this is a one time deal, but nevertheless it’s something I swore I’d never do.
I used to call people like me “pompous” and “yuppies” and that they had way too much time on their hands, aside from having too much money.
Not that I have either per se, but here I am, on my day off from work, sitting at a Panera Bread in Schaumburg, posting to my blog on my notebook. (Lunch was really tasty here.)
It’s a dream of mine to do web design and create custom blog themes full time. And believe me, if that day ever comes, I’ll be happy to create and design for people. Trust me, I’ll be at Panera (or Starbucks) all day long…

Man, you’re being really hard on yourself. Just be happy that you’re making money or something.
I am happy I’m making money, trust me, and I’m not being hard on myself. I’m actually making fun of myself!
Don’t forget to bring me with you! Haha. Congrats on the success!
Dan, you need to work on your design/portfolio website, and then begin releasing themes. The “coming soon” page won’t bring in the money!
I’m right there with you only mine is a photography dream…one day it will happen…when the time is right.
Cari
Oh how I wish there were a Panera where I live… I envy those pompous, yuppie types that can sit around all day filling their laptops with breadcrumbs and spatterings of delicious soup.
Then again, there would be more pompous, yuppie types lingering around… Damn… Pros.. Cons… Pros…
Brian, I feel your pain. I have come close to packing up my own notebook and heading off to a quieter place than my dining room, with at least one child pulling on my leg.
I think the best I can muster is inviting some friends over for a Site Development Party. They bring their laptops over and I get stuck working out issues for their websites.
On the other hand, I am a bit self conscience about what others would think of me. I don’t want people sitting there thinking of me as the yuppie with nothing better to do!
Brian, if you’re ever in Southwest Ohio, give me a ring and I’ll spring for lunch. We have Panera breads here.
