Sneak Preview #1 of New Revolution Themes

I just wanted to say thanks to everyone who left comments on the post about Revolution going open source. I’ve had a lot of requests to preview some of the upcoming themes, so I figured that I better respond.

This theme will have the capability of showing 600×400 high quality images, and will autosize the thumbnail images at the bottom where the recent photos will be.

Here’s a sneak preview of one of the Revolution themes that will be open source – as you can see, it will be geared towards the photography/portfolio folks.

Comments

  1. Lynn says:

I’d love to see the new theme created with the woman in mind… the one your wife likes!

    Thanks!

  2. Jim S. says:

Will users be able to link to their online photo streams, e.g., Picasa, Flickr, etc.?

  3. Jonathan says:

Looks great Brian and pretty much exactly what I’ve been looking for for a new site I’ll be starting soon. Can’t wait until it’s available.

    -J

  4. Stu McLaren says:

    Brian,

The new theme looks very sharp.

The darker backdrop will really make those pictures pop.

    Nicely done.

    Take care.

    Stu

  5. Thanks everyone – I’m really trying my best to develop themes that are different than the current themes. Granted a few of them will be similar in layout, but much different in style… this photo theme will break all molds.

Lynn, the theme you are referring to will be revealed in the next preview post I make.

  6. Jim, no they won’t. I’m really trying to keep things simple, so this theme will operate like this:

    1) create post (will show in the description area in the sidebar)
    2) upload image to your server
    3) place image url in a custom field box
    4) publish post

  7. Mat Packer says:

    Very very nice Brian.

I instantly know a few uses for this one, can’t wait to see it fully developed as I know it will be so so easy to tweak because your CSS is so clean!

    Cheers
    Mat

  8. Fantastic, Brian – really nice work. I really like the dark theme…its super sharp. Looking forward to seeing your future previews.

  9. Matt, thanks. This one is going to be very clean – both css and theme file coding.

Lisa, thanks as well – I’ll probably post the second preview on Friday.

  10. Armen says:

    Hey Brian,
I’m in full support of premium themes (as long as they offer quality and innovation), but I also hope the angle you’re taking really works out for you.

You’re one of the good guys. Keep at it!

  11. dinu says:

    good one :)
but, I am waiting for something like revolution pro : for a new blog that I started recently .. I will work on my content and other stuff until you release the other themes ;) and then launch the site :)

  12. Armen, thanks – appreciate that. We’ll see how the “angle” works on. All I know is that Jason and I are looking forward to releasing a number of new themes and for November 1st to come!

  13. Alexey says:

Thank you, Brian! Your themes are great and open source is the right direction.

  14. Dan says:

Very nice. Makes me want to think of an idea for a photo blog so I can use it :)

Looking forward to seeing what the other themes look like. I’m thinking of giving my blog a new look, so these are in with a good chance.

  15. John says:

Yeah, seem like a nicely Portfolio theme. will be perfect for online e gallery.

Great work Brian as always. Rock On \,,/

  16. Brett says:

That looks great. I have been looking for a good photography theme so this is good timing.

Any idea when it will be available?

  17. reb says:

    oooh, nice one :)

  18. Deborah says:

Well you hit two keywords for me on this theme Brian! Simplicity and Photography. Think I will throw in my designing board :)
Can’t wait to see this one.

  19. Wong says:

Oh boy, that is a great looking theme. I’ll have to use it for my planned site with photographs in it (idea to use it by Deborah.)

I am waiting eagerly for the revolution of the Revolution themes.

  20. Brian: It’s a gorgeous theme and nearly perfect for a site I’ve been developing. Is there any way a user could replace the photos with videos?

  21. Susan says:

Wow that’s very nice Brian!! Perfect Portfolio theme indeed!! Folks are really going to have a hard time once your up and running picking one of your new open source themes. Your going to them take by storm!!

  22. Hummerbie says:

Brian, This is really great! I just started an new Photo blog and wasn’t really happy with the theme.

Now I have to wait.., but I am sure it will have a better fit.
    Thanks for you awesome work!

  23. Thanks everyone – this theme should be available 11/1 when we launch the new Revolution site. (although I will say that I’m very close to creating my own photostream with this theme and making it live before the 11/1 date.) This way you can actually see the theme in action before it’s available.

  24. David says:

Brian as you know “open source” does not always mean free.

Can you clarify what the costs will be for the next set of Revolution Themes or will they be free and you will be generating revenue through customization, support, etc.

    Thanks.

  25. David, sure. All users will have the option to download an unsupported version of the theme, or to purchase a package that enables them to receive support, tutorials, the ability to get it customized, etc.

  26. David says:

Awesome. I assume the unsupported version of the themes will editable if you know php?

  27. Yes they will.

  28. matt says:

looks great Brian. Keep up the good work.

  29. Joy says:

Brian, I have to tell that your Revolution themes have seriously revolutionized the web design world. Everywhere I look, I see your footprints and what a wonderful footprint it is! May your creativity cup continue to OVERFLOW!! Wishing you much continued success!!

  30. Chad Stewart says:

Awesome! Just yesterday I decided I’d search for a WP theme for my photography site. I want to start a Photo-A-Day blog. I happened upon Photopress 1.0 which turned out to done by Brian.

This new theme looks even better! I can’t wait. Looking forward to it!!

  31. Glenn says:

I’ll be putting this baby to use right away … ditto on the No. 1 comment about the ladies theme … I get a lot of requests for those.

  32. Thomas says:

I’m trying to find out which of these themes would be suitable for an educational website. Actually any of them might be nice for this after some tweaking, but what I really miss is the ability to provide content for closed user groups. Of course WP might be configured to ask for a password to show certain pages, but that is ‘old school’… Where is the revolutionary new approach to provide such informations (for specific classes/students that is) in an interesting more flexible way – say video/downloads/calendar/quizzes etc. just putting such information on a password protected page is not ‘cool’. To me it seems to be quite a great market for such a specific theme. Certainly not so obviously seen by the masses , but just consider how many schools/teachers are out there…
Best greetings from the other side of the world (Jakarta).
    Thomas “Mr.T”

  33. Edwin says:

    Looks great Brian!

  34. Looking great. I like how you’ve used it on your photoblog, too – I may have to take after you on that :P

  35. varun says:

    Great Stuff Brian….

btw what happened to the other stuff, some of the themes you had were pretty cool…. I kinda miss them :(
