Short and Sweet

I have to apologize in advance that this post will be short. We’ve been gone for the weekend - spent a glorious 75 degree sunny afternoon yesterday at the Purdue football game, then went down to Indianpolis to spend time with family.

Anyway, I don’t know how I’ve managed to stay afloat these past few months. Many of you don’t know that in addition to design, I have a dayjob, which takes up 40 hours a week of my life.

This explains why I am unable to answer every email or in the detail in which people sometimes wish from me. It also explains the bags under my eyes, the reason my contact form has been down for months and why I continually talk about how much I’d love to spend my days sitting at Panera or Starbucks with laptop in hand.

On Monday, I will be making a huge step - I will be incorporating as Brian Gardner Media, LLC. I know that officially becoming a company in itself isn’t a big deal, but in my life it signifies movement that has really needed to happen for some time now.

Rome wasn’t built in a day, but it was built. And for those who are looking for custom blog design, WordPress tips or more Revolution themes, tomorrow will be a step closer in me taking the giant leap of faith that I’ve been dreaming of. More time = more ability to work with you all.

Just bare with me as I focus on things that I need to right now, because it will undoubtedly open up the possibilities that will make us all happy!

    Congrats Brian,

I’ve been a regular visitor to your blog and admired your work for some time. I’m also a customer of your having recently purchased the Revolution theme.

You’ve got to feel good about having only been so new on the scene and having such success with your blog and themes. I think that says a lot about the future potential of your online related business/ventures.

I look forward to being a customer for some time.

    Cheers

To everyone who’s commented so far - many thanks for your kind words and words of encouragement! It’s been a really fun ride, and I only hope it gets better!

Congratulations! Can’t wait to see what comes from this big move. Little steps = long journies and beautiful rewards :D

  9. October 22nd, 2007 at 8:59 am

Congratulations! I knew it was only a matter of time.

  10. October 22nd, 2007 at 9:18 am

Brian: I know incorporating is small physical step, but a mighty leap emotionally. You’ve laid some great groundwork, though, so those first few days with an Inc behind your name hopefully won’t be too frightening. Good luck on your next phase.

Congratulations! Frankly, I don’t know how you do it all.

@ Cher - yes, this is a little step, but also a big one. We’ll see how soon it turns into a giant one! ;)

@ Jeff - I think when we spoke months ago on the phone, I mentioned to you this was in the works. True, it took longer than I wanted, but it’s at the right time.

@ Ed - To one of my most faithful readers… your words of encouragement along the way have really helped. Pleas don’t discount how much they’ve meant to me!

@ Don - You are not the only one. Including myself, I don’t think there’s a person on the planet that knows how I do it all. To be honest, it’s a lot of very strategic planning with my time. After all, I also need to be a husband and a dad, and that time for me is very precious.

Brian Gardner, CEO….Hmmmm, has a nice ring to it. LOL!

  14. October 22nd, 2007 at 10:08 am

Kenn, yeah, sounds nice huh? But I’m also the secretary, the accountant, the janitor… jack of all trades I guess in a one man company!

  15. October 22nd, 2007 at 11:59 am

Yes, jack of all trades, but whenever you make the complete transition, it sure is going to feel good doing your own thing 100% of the time instead of working for someone else or some other company.

Don’t know why buy i am excited. I think even more outstanding design and premium themes are coming very soon. Congrats X 100!!!!

Good luck Brian! Good move and one that strikes me as moving with all the appropriate steps. Balance is always essential, but is often that mythological goal that we all keep trying to attain. Onward and upward.

  18. October 22nd, 2007 at 12:29 pm

@ Tracy, thanks - and yes, working for myself will certainly be rewarding!

@ Forrest - another thanks. And when the time comes, more designs (even new free ones) will be on the horizon!

@ Shawn - yes, balance is good, and onward and upward I will go. As Buzz Lightyear says… to infinity and beyond!!! (can you tell I have a 3 year old?) ;)

I wish you much success. I found your blog almost instantly on the wide world of Google about a year ago when I was looking for WordPress templates. Your work immediately stood out and became memorable. The Revolutions theme set is cutting edge stuff because you are giving novices a high-end template to use WordPress as a true content management system. I think that alone is a solid business model. You have the “street cred” and the professionalism (and clearly the design talent) to really be the go-to enterprise for WordPress customization and profitable application strategies.

Enjoy family, friends and your career. Pray on it.

I wish you all the very best Brian. You are one of the few wp themers that I like.

    Good Luck !

Freelancing rocks the house. It is the only way I can scoot around to multiple schools, do Scholastic Book club volunteering, see Fun Runs, be active in my kids’ daily lives at school and between 3:30 and 5:00 when “daddy” gets home.

I wouldn’t trade it for the world.

Wishing you the greatest of success.

  22. October 23rd, 2007 at 10:49 pm

Have followed your work and blog for a while. Just wanted to say congrats and wish you the best of luck!

    One small step for BG
One giant leap for Wordpress design!

Okay, okay, I know it’s cheesy, but I just had a glass of wine and coudn’t resist.
    (hmmmmmm, wine and cheese…..)

    Congrats and good luck!

I’m so excited for you Brian! I’ve been buried with work lately and haven’t had time to read or comment on any of my usual haunts, so I missed this post. Anyway congratulations!

  25. October 26th, 2007 at 9:56 pm

I haven’t been to Indy since we left New Albany in ‘03.

Great downtown area ! St. Elmo’s rules for steaks and shrimp cocktail !

Can you send me an email and recommend someone to “slightly” alter the News style Revolution theme for 2 corporate blogs we maintain.

    Thanks.
