Mad Libs Blog Style - Chapter 1

Sunset Blvd. After years of being a project manager for an architectural firm, I finally decided that it wasn’t truly making me happy and I wanted to spread my wings. Although I wasn’t Dooced from my job, I knew that I had high ambitions. I wanted to be a Blogebrity, so I packed my bags and decided to give it a Whoorl.

Since I was born in southern California, I knew that was the only place to go - some people think I was a Dad Gone Mad, but that wasn’t the case.

I started to think that my life was becoming Meaninglis and I just wanted to be like everybody else and become an Undercover Celebrity.

So I hopped on a plane and headed out to the City of Angels, a place where I knew that Pink Was the New Blog and where those who wanted to become a Pro Blogger could possibly catch their break. After all, this was the place where you could find Daily Blog Tips and even become a WordPress Rock Star.

Starbucks

After my plane landed, I took a taxi over to the closest Starbucks, where I ordered a Chai Tea Latte and put on my Creative Curio thinking cap. Now I wasn’t just your typical Geek with a Laptop, rather my education and degree in Essential Keystrokes meant I could type fast and blog frequently. But before I wanted to start cranking away as a Copyblogger, I thought I’d give my old friend Professor Engadget a call.

Well, he wasn’t at home, and since I needed to get some other things done, I packed up my bags and went to the local Blurbomatt to do some laundry. After throwing in a load, I grabbed a copy of the Blog Herald to see if I could temporarily land one of the prestigious Wordpress jobs while I was waiting for my big break. Besides, making a little Shoemoney on the side would help pay the bills!

Just as I opened up the Job section, something totally amazing happened…

(Stay tuned, as a new chapter Mad Libs Blog Style will be posted every Monday!)

This is really fun! Thanks for working my little blog in there :D Can’t wait for part two! So does this mean you’re moving back to CA??

  2. December 3rd, 2007 at 11:08 am

Hey Lauren… would be nice if I could move back. (check the excerpt line just below the post title - says it’s fictitious!) So, no, unfortunately I’m not really moving out there! And you’re welcome for adding your “little” blog in there!

    Heh. :)

  4. December 3rd, 2007 at 11:42 am

Hey Brian, thanks for short (but sweet) comment. Glad I could make ya smile!

  5. December 3rd, 2007 at 11:50 am

Nice way to start the week off Brian! Congrats on taking the leap of faith - you are going to really enjoy this next chapter.

And of course, thanks for weaving my blog into your story…

Hey Char… yeah, I am actually planning on structuring my blog for days of the week. (i.e. have a specific thing I do each day of the week) Gives me a way to compartmentalize the different things I want to do on the blog, so each day of the week will be a specific “thing”. Like Friday will be Blog Review day, etc.

I saw the fiction part, but I could still hope! It’d be awesome to meet you in person! It’s still cool to talk about places here and actually have someone know what I’m refering too, though :)

Lauren, what you need to do is pop on YIM more often at night, because I am always on and love sending you YouTube videos to watch! ;) Yeah, it would be nice to move out there and to be able to see John Ortberg teach each weekend. Gosh, I miss him!

  9. December 3rd, 2007 at 1:37 pm

I didn’t know he lived around here! Where does he teach? Isn’t he the one that wrote Everybody’s Perfect Unti You Get to Know Them? I read that book for youth group leadership team when I was on it. He sure has some interesting (and humbling!) points to make. He also wrote If You Want to Walk on Water, You Have to Get Out of the Boat right? I’ve heard that one’s good, but I haven’t read it myself.

Actually I’m wrong - it’s more north, in the Bay Area. For some reason I thought Nancy told me they were moving to Orange County. The church is Menlo Park, and yes, that’s one of the books he’s written!

I am glad to see that you can fit in a little bit of humor in the midst of all this stuff, lol. Very good and entertaining..
I gotta stop coming here so much!
    Good job…

  12. December 3rd, 2007 at 2:27 pm

Deborah, humor is one way of getting through this final month of working a dayjob, working a nightjob and also in the middle of the Christmas season. ;) By the way, keeping coming back!

  13. December 3rd, 2007 at 2:40 pm

One more month, Brian! Then you will be poised to take over the web!!

  14. December 3rd, 2007 at 3:04 pm

Hehe, “take over the web.” That’s a good line. Take over the world (wide web) would be applicable, too! What an exciting time for you Brian. Hang in there!

The reason I remember those Ortberg books is because whoever does the cover designs for them has a very fresh, eye-catching style. The colors are vivid and the photos are bold and I just love the back of the Everybody’s Perfect… book because John–I’m assuming that’s him–has a little “As Is” tag on his collar. LOL

  15. December 3rd, 2007 at 3:07 pm

@ Sarah - yes, and then I will have time to help you develop your secret project! :)

@ Lauren - JO is the best speaker I’ve ever seen - we were so fortunate to have him as our pastor for the years we did, and our GenX ministry was even luckier since Nancy was our leader. To be able to get to know her on a personal level was way cool.

Congrats on following your dreams, surging through your fear, and coming out on the other side… I think you’ve found your sweet spot. “Get busy livin’.”

What a waste of 2 minutes full of plugs…..lame

  19. December 5th, 2007 at 6:45 am
