Introducing StudioPress: Online Business Solutions

StudioPressI am very proud to announce the launching of my professional website, StudioPress – online business solutions using WordPress. This is something that I have needed to do for quite some time, and am glad that I finally was able to develop it.

In short, StudioPress is going to be my official web design, WordPress services and consultancy website – a place where I can be hired.

StudioPress will be the parent company for all that I do online, which means ultimately Revolution will fall underneath it as a web property that I own/run.

One thing I will say is that I have a lot of plans moving forward, both with Revolution and other things in general, and needed an umbrella to keep it all under. For a number of reasons, I was advised to do this. (aren’t lawyers and accountants great?)

Looking back over the past year, I have realized that I am running Revolution all by myself – true, I have some forum moderators, but the bottom line is that in order to continue developing professional themes, building an ever-growing community of users and ensuring quality documentation, it was best to build a company in which I can hire people to help do things.

After all, I’m only a one man show at this point, and you would all be surprised by the amount of work that running a WordPress theme website entails. (not to mention the 100’s of emails and private messages I get on a daily basis)

With the possibility of speaking at conferences and upcoming WordCamps, I needed to grow – and growing means not just doing more as an individual, but inviting important people who have proven themselves to join me. With the possibility that Revolution will be run on an incredibly popular website in the near future, (sorry no hints yet) my life might become insanely busier.

Thus, the launching of StudioPress…

Brian, I’m excited to see the new site and service. Congrats on this move – it will be nice to see where you take things. Hope it goes well for you!!

  2. Ovais says:

Congratulations on the launch of StudioPress. I like the name you have chosen. You have given us so much through your designs and tutorials, and we are fortunate to be able to customize them to our needs. But there are a great many other people who need to go to the Master himself to get their websites made. I’m looking forward to watching StudioPress blossom into full-fledged going concern.

  3. Was wondering when the official announcement would come out. Love the new site. Good luck with the “umbrella” corp!

  4. David says:

I like the concept – a lot, actually :) Do you really believe businesses will go for such high prices though? Anyway, nice website, congratulations with the launch and best of luck!

  5. Brad says:

What does this mean for Revolution Two? Will you continue to develop themes for that business property? Will Revolution One themes ever be brought back or is the 2.7 upgrade the end for those?

Like the new site. What does the theme cost if you do not need any services. Have my own hosting already and can do the install, etc.?

  6. Brian Sexton says:

That seems like an exciting step for you. Congratulations.

  7. Remkus says:

Looking great! I am in the process of reorganizing my online activities to a similar model also because I have been advised to do so by those that know what they are talking about. I am using your Streamline design as a basis for that btw..

  8. reb says:

Very exciting, Brian – best of luck :)

  9. jack says:

Congats, I look forward to following your progress and directions of growth.

  10. Cyndy Otty says:

How exciting. I think this is a very brilliant step forward for you and your plans and I wish you the very best with regards to it all in the future. I’m certainly looking forward to seeing where you take things! :)

  11. Andy says:

Brian, congratulations!!! This is awesome news–and as I have watched your growth and successes as an entrepreneur, totally expected.

Looking forward to your future growth and progress.

  12. Susan says:

Congratulations Brian!! Great name for your business indeed, I hope you continue to grow!! Great design and layout too!!

  13. YEAH, you have made a big step from just working *in* your business, but also working *on* your business.

Let me know if I can help.

  14. Roger Cunard says:

Congrats on the new site and new business structure. Nice work … again.

  15. Kyle Eslick says:

This was a very good idea in my opinion Brian. When I moved all of my online activities under my business name it helped things a ton. Separate checking account/credit card, tax deductions available, and it looks much more professional. I also like the name you’ve chosen.

Here is to StudioPress in 2009!

  16. Joliveira says:

Congrats on this new professional step:)

  17. Sam Darko says:

I thought it was for these purposes that you joined forces with Jason.
    Good luck

  18. Matt says:

Brian, I’m very happy that you’re taking yet another step forward. I wish you continued success!

  19. Deb says:

Brian, this looks great. Love the StudioPress theme – very cool! How did you arrive at the StudioPress logo? Did you hire someone for the design or do it yourself? All the best for your success in 2009!

  20. Wesley says:

Dude…this is great! I’m real excited that you are taking it to the next level. Keep pumping out good shiz and it’s going to blow up for you.

  21. Agus MU says:

    Congrats!

    I like the StudioPress Design!

  22. Matej says:

Did I missed something, where are download links on RevolutionTwo? :/

  23. Darrin Brown says:

Brian, Congrats I’m very happy that you’re taking yet another step forward. Design, web/marketing is changing so fast it is hard to keep up… I wish you continued success!

  24. Tillman says:

I would like to congratulate you on your success & growth. Having an LLC for the last two years has been really nice, especially this time of year. We have our business listed as a sole proprietor so one tax form is only required.

We also get new laptops every other year and it’s my turn this year. Men with pens are working on our latest business idea, but after that we are open to use studio Press.

    Cheers,

  25. Martin Wind says:

Brian…best of luck on the new venture. We hope 2009 is a great success for all concerned. Warm regards from the BlackBox team…

  26. Lawrence says:

Exciting news, Brian. I like the site design too – very professional and attractive. Every best wish to you in the new venture.

  27. Good luck Brian – when you start to think about staff you’re moving into a harder but potentially more rewarding business world. It’ll be difficult! We’ve come about it from the other direction – doing custom only WordPress work before filtering that down into Spectacu.la.

The only advice I’d give is to start by subcontracting work to trusted and experienced professionals before taking on new staff. I’ve run the gamut of trying to take on trainees and whilst they’re great and it’s a joy to watch them develop, they’re also very time-expensive even if their hourly rate is low. A contractor, on the other hand, needs little of your time and can be productive almost immediately. A junior member of staff to look after admin, enquiries and so on could be very handy, however, if you want to get any good coding time to yourself!

Again, good luck with your venture!

  28. Steve says:

Congratulations Brian! I have only just started using WordPress last year, quickly found Revolution and have already uesd it for two blogs. I have known about WP for a while but had been using a custom built CMS till now… Wow! I’ve abandoned the custom CMS and now a WP junky/loyal now! I hoep toi have my own custom themes someday.

Any chance of the StudioPress theme made available?

I wish you the best my brutha!
I look forward to many great things from StudioPress!

    Steve

  29. Kristi says:

Hi Brian, I wanted to use your contact, but I guess I can just leave a comment. I’m one of many who loves your themes. I just modified your 3-column silhouette theme and wanted to say thanks and feel free to take a look. It’s really “tight” and functional (like all of yours)! Thanks and God bless you in 2009!

  30. Tom Murphy says:

Congratulations Brian… you know I am a big fan of yours. I know you and StudioPress will be a big success.

    All the best!

    Tom

  31. rebba says:

    Congrats brian.OPA!

  32. Thanks Brandon, this was long overdue, and hopefully me adding help will only make things better for theme users, and what not!

  33. Wendy says:

    Hi Brian,
Just wanted to know if your hiring? I’m a stay at home mom, photographer, graphic designer, writer and proof-reader. If I can help you, you would be helping me. Either way, if you could e-mail me back with a reply, I would sincerely appreciate it.
    Thanks,
    Wendy

  34. Thanks Ovais, I am thrilled to launch the site, and for once, am actually happy with the design I did for a site!

  35. Thanks Brian – appreciate the kind words! (and knew a few peeps would wonder the same!)

  36. David, well I don’t believe our rates are that high, relative to the business world. The bottom line is that my time is my most premium commodity at the moment, and need to be compensated for it.

  37. Tracy says:

@David – These rates actually quite reasonable.

  38. Thanks Brian, it most certainly is, and hopefully means another successful year for me and my business!

  39. Remkus – glad to hear it, funny how when important people speak, we listen.

  40. Brad, all themes will still be released under Revolution – the StudioPress site just lists my rates for customization and services. The original Revolution themes will not come back as they were – I might take certain design elements from them and bring them into new themes, but to protect the integrity in which they were purchased, I decided to leave them be.

  41. Remkus says:

true.. but not all the time.. you gotta question authority every now and then ;)

  42. Thanks Rebecca – appreciate that!

  43. Thanks Jack – should be a fun year, that I can promise!

  44. Thanks Andy, it will certainly help me move forward with my business plans, so we shall see what exactly 2009 has in store for me!

  45. Thanks Cyndy, appreciate it!

  46. Thanks Jonathan – appreciate that, and from all that you’ve sent me in terms of HedgeHog stuff, this is one big step for me.

  47. Thanks Susan, appreciate it!

  48. Time is the most precious commodity available. Despite wanting more and needing more, we only have a limited quantity. Time is money, as they say. If people find our thoughts valuable, it is only reasonable we are reasonably recompensed. Otherwise, I’d rather spend my time in Hawaii rather than upstate New York in the winter. ;)

  49. Thanks Kyle, I appreciate that! I have been an LLC for the past year, this just is more of a web presence thing, that it is behind the scenes!

  50. Brad says:

Guess I’m confused because you have a link on StudioPress to a real estate theme.

  51. Andrew Sharp says:

You missed out dude. Now you have to pay big bucks. Shame, isn’t it? I think this is a bad decision on Brians part.

  52. Yes, chances are you did miss something. But everything is explained here!… http://www.briangardner.com/blog/kicking-off-2009-a-bit-early.htm

  53. Thanks, Jason and I joined forces when we launched the Revolution Two project, but StudioPress is above that as the parent resource.

  54. Thanks Deb – I had done the concept with the font, but had a good friend put together the icon part of the logo as I was having severe design cramp with that one.

  55. Thanks Wes, appreciate that and look forward to working with you this year!

  56. I hardly think that $60 for a theme is big bucks. If you want to define big bucks, go to a design studio and see what their rates are for a custom web design.
