Help Me Name My Media Company

30

This might be one of my funnest posts to date. As some of you know, I do web design on the side - many late nights and busy weekends… anyway, I’m planning on starting a company, but need a name!

Here’s where you, my loyal readers come in. I need your help naming it!

Basically what I am looking for is a two-word name, last word being Media. So something like Sawtooth Media. Obviously that’s just an example.

So the first word needs to be pretty short. Nothing like Encyclopedia Media. Feel free to leave a comment if you have a cool name for me, and if I choose something that someone has suggested, I’ll somehow reward you for it!

How about “Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious Media”. LOL Sorry I couldn’t help myself after reading that you wanted the first word to be short.

    Edge Media
    Bellflower Media
    Royal Media
    Titan Media

  2. aboyo says:

    Garden Media
    Brian Media
    Gardner Media

  3. Randa Clay says:

How about some play on your last name?
Garden Media with a tag line of “we grow things”. I can picture a whole marketing design for that name… “cultivate your customers”, etc.
    or, Harvest Media, Organic Media
    other ideas:
Pinpoint Media, Artisan Media, Envision Media, Forge Media, Spark Media

I have done branding for a number of businesses, and to really find that name you have to turn inward and ask yourself: What will my name represent? Will it reveal something about myself and my business? Will it encompass how customers will feel after working with me? When I look at the name, does it actually mean something or is it just that - a name? Also, use a combination of words and sounds to represent that special name. For example: Versativa Software. Versatile and the ending, “tiva” is a contemporary sound that flows and will ultimately be remembered. By the way, love your blog and your designs are truly inspired.

  5. PRESS MEDIA (a play on your WordPress expertise and double meaning)
    M-PRESS (or mPRESS) MEDIA
    PRESS MEDIUM
    imPRESS MEDIUM

I also want to use this as an opportunity to “personally” thank you for the latest WordPress theme. I am using it with a credit link on my new blog.

  6. Wow, everyone, thanks for the great suggestions so far! I’m really trying to gather a long list, and then have some fun narrowing it down.

    Keep ‘em coming! :)

    Hi Brian,

I love languages, so I usually look to other languages for creative inspiration. Here are a few suggestions:

    Laurus Media
Laurus (Latin meaning Success or Victory)

    Advenio Media
    Advenio (Latin meaning arrive)

    Vindico Media
    Vindico (Latin meaning claim)

Anyway, I hope you have fun with all of the inspiration. Thanks for the opportunity to help!

    Love your site!

    I liked Encyclopedia Media.

Boy, I can’t compete. I really like some of Randa’s the best. Really good ideas there. I am going to think about it some and then I will come back. I usually come up with solutions for things when I am sleeping, so…

  11. Wow, everyone, great names so far, and thanks so much for the response! Still thinking!

  12. John Boyd says:

I thought you may stick with something like “Blindigo Media”….

  13. Possible, but plain ‘ole Brian Gardner Media might be something I choose to use, just to keep the presence of my name out there.

  14. Anthony says:

    I love naming stuff.

I just read your bio and because you said you liked Starbucks why not go for: Venti New Media?

  15. Michael says:

    Hey Brian and all,
I like it when I can give back, and your amazing clean and stylish templates make my life easier.

I sometimes have to create online identities for companies, and find them a domain name which is not always easy. I use a crazy system with lots of steps, but it works well.

Ok, I don’t want to crash your WP so I’ll try and keep it short, if you need anything just e-mail me.

There are lots of dos and donts, but try and keep it short, original, memorable, easy to pronounce, and it should say what you do. If it’s fitting, you can try a play on words. Slogans are really fun too.

You may have a tougher time finding a name, because people in the media field are quite the creative ones, ands lots are taken.

One method I always use, is putting a pile of blank 8.5×11 paper and pens in front of me, before I go near the computer. Write anything that comes to mind, related keywords, etc.

Go with something that says what you do and or how you do it, maybe think about your company’s mission and culture, etc.

Okay I’m babbling again, here are some available domain names that are available, and a couple of my own idea - stay with a .com name, for out-there creativity you can get many names with the .tv extension. I like JuicyMedia, but it’s kinda flashy and bold.

AphexMedia.com Just a futuristic type of name

    ArtCastMedia.com Nice art-related name

    CheckerMedia.com Very brandable, easy to
    remember, etc…

    DynaTecMedia.com Techy sounding name

EscherMedia.com This is for someone who loves the intricate works of MC Escher

    InterAdMedia.com more advertising geared

InvivoMedia.com in the living body of a plant or animal

JuciyMedia.com nice name, Definitions: rich in interest, colorful, sensational, racy, full of vitality, rewarding or profitable

KickAshMedia.com this one depends on sense of humor

PegMedia.com says you’ve got your customers’ needs and wants pegged - def: work steadily, diligently

RespondMedia.com professional type name, says you communicate with your customers

    ShirtMedia.com eh

TelCastMedia.com more for a TV media co.

    TelStarMedia.com same here as above

TempusMedia.com Latin word meaning time, Finnish word meaning grammatical tense, one con may be the word temp

VittoMedia.com Vitto is just a surname, nice sounding

WingoMedia.com catchy name, is also surname, and is used by variety of companies

    WorkNetMedia.com eh

    Cheers

    Michael

  19. Djubba says:

1st I straightaway thought “Gardenia Media”, and then as a next thought, perhaps “Gaurdian Media: Designs that protect your interests”, etcetera,
the Gaurdian and Gardner name “sounding similar… eg.,
“Brian Gardner’s Gaurdian Media is the Way to Go”

  21. Gemma Weirs says:

  22. Howie says:

    Holy Cow! Media

    Three words, I know.

  23. eric hebert says:

When naming, I’d come up with something simple but original Here was my formula:

Pick a word that has something to do with what you’re all about. Mine was “evolution”

Try screwing around with it until Google results show anything special or already trademarked/copywrited…

I used the He-Man suffix -or (like Mosquit-or) to get my word.

    “evol-vor”

    thus evolvor media

Then it will be easy to rank in google for ’cause you’re already online (and you’ll be Able to get a small unique URL!)

Let me know if ya need any other
    advice - it’s fun!

  24. eric hebert says:

I meant say “untill you DON’T find anything trademarked”…the idea is to come up with something new and orginal…

  25. Daniel says:

My 6 year old told me to name my company Monstro Media. I had already named it, so a little to late. Kids always have the best ideas.

  26. Michelle Nenov says:

Hi there, I just came across this site and thought I would join in on the fun and maybe be a little help:

    1. Instead of Media being the second word, how about it being the first like: Media Happening

    2. Media Medium

    3. Medial Media

    4. Utter Media

    5. My favorite is this: “ducky” is a synonym for the term “all right” so: Ducky Media would mean “all right media”…

    Hope this helps!
