Good Guys in Hollywood

5

In a world filled with misaligned values and Hollywood scandals, I find myself continually pessimistic that any good can become of celebrities and the notoriety that comes along with fame.

However, that changed a bit yesterday when I was checking out the message boards for the Breast Cancer 3-Day event that I am participating in in August of this year.

Here’s what I read in the announcements section there:

What kind of world do you want? Platinum-certified and Grammy nominated singer/songwriter John Ondrasik and his band, Five For Fighting asks this question in their latest single entitled “World,” which is from their new CD, Two Lights (Aware/Columbia). Ondrasik and Five For Fighting donated use of the single for the Breast Cancer 3-Day Series’ 2007 television advertising campaign.

You may have seen the commercials for this event, as I have, but I what I failed to understand was that John and Five for Fighting donated that song because of personal reasons. John and his wife lost a family member to breast cancer, which caused him to give so generously. The story continued:

“I am pleased to attach my song ‘World’ to the Breast Cancer 3-Day walk benefiting Susan G. Komen for the Cure and National Philanthropic Trust. For 25 years, Komen for the Cure has led by example in taking action and making a difference. The Breast Cancer 3-Day allows others to join them in the breast cancer movement,” said John Ondrasik, lead singer for Five For Fighting. “Such themes are embodied in ‘World’ with the simple question ‘What kind of world do you want?’ It is my hope that my music brings awareness to this cause as we continue to work towards a cure.”

So amidst the junk that goes on in Tinseltown, out breaks the silver lining with Five for Fighting, who I already love for their song “The Riddle”.

Thanks John, for being so kind!

    Wow I can’t believe your site is a rip of http://www.humblevoice.com/ :(

  2. Shelli says:

Did Craig not see that you give credit to Humble Voice? What ev, I say!

I love that song and I immediately associated that with the 3-Day ads. Great post, Brian.

  3. Shelli, thanks for taking my back. Craig, don’t know why you have a problem with that. Not only is Shelli right that I have given credit to them in my footer, by saying “Inspired by Humble Voice”, but Jonathan (owner of that site) has no problem whatsoever with the way my site looks.

In fact, he was flattered that I took the time to email him about it when I created this theme, and enjoyed hearing from me how much I loved his site.

I get incredibly irked by people who don’t read or bother to look at all the facts before offering their knee-jerk reactions.

Most site designs are inspired to varying degrees by other sites. No harm there, and I think crediting the source of the inspiration is even cooler. Kudos all around!

Great post, Brian. It is refreshing to see that not everyone in Hollywood is like the people shown on the E! channel.

Hmmmm… I feel a diatribe coming on. Perhaps more than one. Must stop now.

  5. I think Craig is more irritated that I didn’t choose blue back when I created this! LOL, sorry man, just taking a fun shot at you.

    It’s no big deal.
