Frame or No Frame?

I had an extra few minutes last night, and thought I’d try something out on my site - I added a frame around my content area, and can’t decide if I like it better or not.

So I figured why not ask those who visit my blog what they think?

Do you like the border, or do you think it looks better without it? Please let me know what you think!

Hi Brian - it looks nice, but I’m on my laptop and you’re getting a horizontal scrollbar at 1024×768.

Randa, there was a bug with my css, and now it’s fixed (I think). Can you confirm that it fits now?

I can confirm you that it fits now, but I can’t see the borders :))
I’m on my laptop as well - 1024×800 - and looks alright.

OK, sorry, I guess I couldn’t see it because of your WP-Cache plugin. Well, it looks pretty, but I still hate those margins (top and bottom). Could you make it 5 pixels instead of 10?

PS: I sent you a mail earlier today - on your Hotmail account, if you still use it. Can you take a look and, eventually, answer? Please? :P

I aim to please Alex, changed it to 5px.

Nice detail. Love it! Suggestion: Thin black, single line.

  8. July 25th, 2007 at 9:05 am

Howie, are you saying thin black line in lieu of the double light gray?

Alex, to answer your question re: excerpts, I am using the Limit Post plugin found here: http://wp-plugins.net/plugin/limit-post/

yeah. way better. tho I hate the #DDD. try better #F2F2F2 and see how it fits. that neverminding my dislike to this kind of grey :))

thanks. one more question: the “you are here” thing (sorry, I forgot the word - I’m Romanian, I don’t speak/write in English that often - mostly read) - is it a plugin as well?

    thanks.

thank you. great having this conversation in real time with you :)). the only one I’m having this kind of chat (though on GMail’s chat) is Paul Stamatiou.
i remebered the word i intended to use: pathway, as my ex-gf was calling it :)).
anyway, thanks again. you were great help :)

I vote for no frame, it draws the eye away from the content, where before there was a smooth transition between the background and the white content area. Too many lines going in every direction. JMHO.

Chris, thanks for being honest - wouldn’t want it any other way. I will leave this up until my next post and will take it from there! I do see what you are saying! (not to mention I wasn’t looking forward to trying to apply the frame to my support forums to match!

  16. July 25th, 2007 at 11:31 am

I liked it better without the frame. As chris said - too many lines. If you want to keep it, make it 1px wide and more subtle.

  17. July 25th, 2007 at 12:13 pm

Starting to look like it’s better without - thanks Redface for the feedback.

  18. July 25th, 2007 at 7:38 pm

No frame seems cleaner to me.

  19. July 25th, 2007 at 9:22 pm

No frame. I like the subtle dimension you’ve added to the comments and the textarea … like a 1pixel shadow with the light on the top left. Why not add that effect to the entire page rather than the frame? That would be consistent.

As Chris and Redface has stated above - The frame draws the eye away from the content, at least in this context. Still I like the frame and the thought of what can be done with it. :)

No No more (pain)-Frame :) (song?) … minimalism is engine of progress! Sorry for my ENG.

    GL!
