Feeling a Little Blue This Time of Year

31

First of all I want thank everyone who read my latest post about doing it again - yes, that dreaded “every other month” redesign that I do. You all were very graceful, and I appreciate the lack of bashing that took place!

Actually I could have taken it, but that’s another story… anyway, as you can see that I’ve dressed up the new Revolution wireframe theme that I’ll soon be releasing with a little holiday blue. Yes, I know it’s nothing special in terms of design, but I’ve been trying to keep things simple in my life these days, so the design you see here is yet another example of simplicity.

You’ll notice that this design isn’t much different than the original screenshots I posted - just a little blue, a narrower content area and a few other little things here and there. At some point I plan to add a custom homepage to this theme as well, so watch out for that.

In the meantime, here’s a sneak peak of another page template that will be included in the new Revolution theme. It will pull in posts that are designated in a “video” category.

Here’s the screenshot… (click to enlarge)

Like the rounded corners and the Nav at the bottom looks pretty sharp.

    • Thanks Jack, now do me a favor and tell Internet Explorer and Opera to like the rounded corners, will ya? :)

You got me! The more I see the the bottom Nav (footer) the more I like it. An Idea: Have different options on the design list for the footer with or without the nav lists for all the sites, just a thought. This would make more room for advertisers on the right sidebar(s).

Looks great Brian!! Getting into the holiday spirit is good!! I love the “rounded” appearance of your comment section too..very nice….great use of gradients too!!!

    • Thanks Susan, I actually spent the better part of the past two weeks trying to come up with ideas for the redesign. And then, as it hit me that next week is already Thanksgiving and it has already snowed here in Chicago, it made sense!

  3. Love the subtle winter/holiday theme. Simple, elegant.

Good design doesn’t have to be complicated :-)

    Cheers!

  4. Looks great. Are you going to have a template in the WireFrame template that does photos and looks like the Album/Photo themes as well?

    Keep up the good work.
    Molly

    • Hey Molly, yes, it’s going to be a Product Page template, which is laid out similar to the Video Page template, but it won’t have auto-generated thumbnails like the Album/Photo themes since it will be created with pages and not posts.

  5. It looks pretty slick, I’ve just converted to the revolution office, but I think I might have a theme upgrade when you launch this one, because it looks so nice :-)

But for me a lot depends on the front page, so I can’t wait to see it…

Love the look of the theme Brian. I’ve been looking for a change to my site and I think I might have found what I was looking for. Any plans for a photo gallery page template?

  7. Very nice, makes me feel “christmasy” (if that’s a word I don’t think I spelled it right..)

  8. Looking nice Brian, and very festive!

A shame, here in the UK, we don’t quite know what snow is! I mean, when do we ever get that around here?…But the good news is that, well according to the news, we are mean’t to be getting some of the white stuff tomorrow! Yay!… :D

This theme looks to be VERY easy to customise, and I’m liking it more and more! So guess what I might be upto over the festive period, I might give Mark-McWilliams.com a revamp!

    Thanks
    Mark

Please, please, please release this theme soon. I’m dying here. I love this theme!

  10. Dan says:

The video theme looks like many others that have pervaded the web recently. What’s missing in almost all of these themes is the ability to show the featured video post at the top along with regular blog posts from other categories underneath. There are a lot of video themes out there but they seem to an all-or-nothing choice. I looked at Jason’s OnDemand theme and the Revolution TV theme which include a list of recent post titles from a designated category in the sidebar, but what I’d really like to see is a theme that includes the full posts from non-video categories in the content column under the featured video header - not just a list of the titles in the sidebar. (IMO it’s a little redundant in the Revolution TV theme to have the recent episodes listed to the right of the featured video and then have them repeated with thumbnails below it.)

Now that would be a cool addition for the world of video bloggers out there who also want to post non-video content and display it prominently on the front page! I’ve been looking, and have seen this request on many forums. Any chance of this option in the new theme?

    • Dan - thanks for the feedback. This theme isn’t going to be a video theme per se, so I don’t want to focus too much on video/capabilities. I’ll consider your comments, and will hopefully result in a good experience for the user when the theme is ready!

      • Dan says:

Yeah, after I posted I noticed that your image was of a video page template, not a new video theme. My mistake. I’m still searching for a theme that shows full non-video posts on the front page along with the featured video from the video category, sort of like The Dog Files site (which I believe Jason did). I know a lot of bloggers who would love that capability. Thanks for considering it. You do great work! Happy holidays!

Very big complement! Thank a lot!

    Hey Brian!

Hope they are keeping your cup full at Starbucks! You would die in Sweden … there is not even one here. In fact, I am dying to get back to Canada for the Holidays so that I can have my first Iced Frapp at London … just before I cross the pond! Hope the weather is okay … anywho…

I stumbled upon the social network for comments today called Intense Debate: http://www.intensedebate.com I just thought I would put it out your way for a commenting system for your site … and possibly incorporating it into your themes. Definitely worth checking outs.

  14. Love the look Brian!!

The rounded corners give it a very nice touch. I without a doubt will start referring my clients to buy your templates.

I look forward to the release!

  15. I love the footer section! I’ve been customizing my own on the original Revolution Themes and this will make it oh so much easier! Thanks a million Brian!

  16. Gary Jones says:

Is it me or my IE7, but I don’t see any rounded corners? I think these are integral to the design, which looks a little “flat” without them.

  17. Lawrence says:

The simplicity works for me, Brian. My initial impression was ‘Nothing special - disappointing!’ But the more I looked, the more I liked. Clean, elegant and does the job! Great.
