I am very pleased to announce the Revolution News theme, an enhanced WordPress theme ideal for online newspapers and online magazines.

Revolution theme clients will receive a 25% discount on purchasing the Revolution News theme! Contact me and I will email you the discount code.

When I first started designing custom WordPress themes, I realized just how powerful the platform was. I knew that if coded right, it could be used in a way that many other blogging platforms couldn’t be used. So I spent some time trying different things, many of which are a part of the Revolution News theme.

One of the most common requests I received while discussing custom WordPress themes with clients was the suggestion to design their site so that it looked like a newspaper, and didn’t look like a blog. More and more people are leaning towards WordPress for online newspapers and magazines, so I decided to develop a theme that would serve as that.

Below you will find a list of many areas in which the Revolution News theme can be a great solution:

  • Mainstream Newspapers
  • Local Newspapers
  • High School Newspapers
  • College/University Newspapers
  • Organization Newspapers
  • Community Newspapers
  • Corporate Newspapers
  • Online Magazines
  • Website Portals

  2. Looks brilliant. Once again I just want to make you aware that in Firefox on Ubuntu the subscribe link in the navigation spans 2 lines which also forces the date down a line.

Also world news in the navigation doesn’t fit so it is forced onto another line. Email me or reply to this (I’ve subscribed) if you would like screenshots.

  4. I’d definetly buy it if I’d have the money available :))
And the reason is not necesarily the design (style.css is not so hard to find), but because I’m damn curious how the code looks like.
As well, I really want to know what plugins you used to make it work like this. I mean, there have to be something more than just the code, as long as there’s a subscribe thingie and some antispam something :))

  10. Sorry guess I should have tried the fifth time :(

  12. Darren, can you take a look now and see if the navigation looks ok? For some reason in my FF it was rendering fine, but I made some changes to see if it works on your end.

Alex, believe it or not that theme is 98% code, and 2% plugins. The only plugins I am using are a breadcrumb navigation, limit-post for the homepage excerpts and a contact form plugin - all of which are supplied in the theme download. Just a matter of uploading them and activating them.

    Deborah, everything ok now? :)

  20. Brian, the Revolution News theme is amazing! I like it better than the original and may be your best work yet.

  22. Thanks Matej, and thanks Will! I think my favorite part of design is trying to top the last theme I did. It drives me nuts sometimes, but when I feel like I succeeded, I feel really good about it!

  26. Though I’ve only had a few, brief moments to check it out, on the surface, I’d say this is your best work, Brian.

I’m interested how you created the “sections”, are those renamed “categories” and if so, how will this work with WP 2.3 and the new “tags” being implemented?

I really like it, very nice.

  27. Brian Gardner on Fri, 14th Sep 2007 10:32 am
  28. Yes, those are categories, and once 2.3 is out, I’ll work out the kinks for that! Thanks Chris, always value your opinions!

  30. It is brilliant. I do really like it quite well. I am going to show it to one of the people I do a site for and see if he likes it.

  32. Just to let you know. I have looked again. The changes work a treat. It looks flawless. Fantastic Work.

Just to mimic everyone else this is possibly the nicest design I’ve recently seen come out of this site. Top stuff!

  35. Hi,

Your theme looks great, very professional, top design. Please test it with Opera 9.5 (that’s the one I installed just for testing purposes).

I am not sure if it is a bug with Opera but the “Katie” is floating somewhere near the middle of the page. I am considering buying it although the price is a bit high for me, it will hit me hard as I need to pay another $170 for web hosting, the theme is worth the money. Can you please fix that bug with Opera.

Can you also please tell me the following:

    1. How easy is it to put ads
    2. Can you put more than one ad on a page
    3. Are the toolbars on top 100% customizible
    4. Do we get free updates for bug fixes etc?
    5. Is there an unsubscribe section for people that have subscribed to the mailing list.

  36. Brian Gardner on Sun, 16th Sep 2007 5:54 am
  37. Mark,
Not sure what to mean by the “Katie” is floating thing - I pulled up the site in Opera and it looks fine…. answers to your questions:
    1. Simple, you need to replace the image and change the url within the theme’s files.
    2. It’s your theme, you can place as many ads as you would like.
    3. 100% is a weird way of putting it, but you can change them to include anything you want.
    4. Yes, those who purchase the theme will always have access to theme updates
    5. It is through Feedburner, so yes, there’s an option to unsubscribe

  43. What makes a premium Wordpress theme?

I assume everyone has heard of premium Wordpress themes before - i.e. better quality themes being sold at a minimal price (compared to that of a custom and unique Wordpress design). Well, with the ever-growing demand for quality Wordpress themes in the…
