What Are Your Goals for 2009?

As we enter the New Year, I thought it would be fun to talk about some of the things I wish to accomplish over the course of the next year. There are many things that I would like to do, now let’s see if I can actually do them!

Here’s a list of things that I hope to accomplish in 2009:

So there it is… probably a very ambitious list, but hey, it’s only a list of things that I hope I can accomplish. Now, it’s your turn… what are some things (personal or business) that you wish to accomplish this year?

Feel free to leave a comment and share!

Kicking off 2009… A Bit Early

Well I just wanted to write a follow up to my Heading into 2009 post and fill you in on some things that I have planned for 2009. So far I have been able to finish 1/2 of things on the list, and only have 5 more of the Revolution themes to update.

As mentioned in this post, there are some things that are changing a bit. As of January 1, 2009, the Revolution Two themes will become paid themes that will carry the GPL license.

This will not affect anyone who has purchased a theme/package so far, as you will still be able to access the theme download and will receive support for the theme(s) you signed up for. Those who have purchased the Pro Plus All Theme package (or inherited it as a result of purchasing the Revolution One All-Inclusive package) will still be entitled to receive all Revolution Two themes and support, so there won’t be any changes to that as well.

To be clear, the spirit of open source and the GPL are being kept intact, and this decision is a result of some clarification that has been made about premium themes and how they can fit into the WordPress community.

On another note, I also wanted to mention that I am in the process of developing another WordPress theme project that will hopefully be launched in the coming weeks. I won’t go into any details at the moment, but I will say that this site will act completely independent of Revolution. More info on that to come…

Streamline Theme Beta Version Released

Now before you yell at me for working on Christmas Eve, just know that it’s 6:00 in the morning and my family is still sleeping. And I’m really doing my best to get a few things done before Christmas comes.

That being said, I just wanted to announce that the Streamline theme beta version is available. As mentioned, I am releasing the theme in beta version, so people can use it and find any potential bugs before I officially release it as a 1.0 version.

Take it for a test drive and let me know what you think!

On a side note, there will be a few small changes to the Revolution Two site effective January 1st – I won’t get into those details of that beforehand, so please don’t ask. But in the meantime…

MERRY CHRISTMAS!

Heading into 2009…

Well I can certainly say that 2008 has been a fun and enjoyable year – I’ve learned a lot of things, primarily about developing and running a business. Revolution has certainly been the most prominent part of my business.

As I head into 2009, I wanted to post a small list of the things that I plan to take care of first. I’ve certainly appreciated the feedback I’ve gotten regarding my Revolution One theme question, and am very thankful that some of you have chosen to be brutally honest.

I needed that, trust me I did.

It has helped me re-focus on what I want to do this coming year, and I thought I’d share with you what I am intending to do over the coming weeks. Consider this a list of things that I want to make a priority to do, and you can come back to see me cross things off the list as I do them.

What better way to be held accountable by displaying these things in front of thousands of people? In the meantime, ’tis the season!

Here’s the list of things that I plan to do first:

  • Update Revolution Magazine theme for WP 2.7
  • Update Revolution Pro Media theme for WP 2.7
  • Update Revolution Music theme for WP 2.7
  • Update Revolution City theme for WP 2.7
  • Update Revolution News theme for WP 2.7
  • Update Revolution Real Estate theme for WP 2.7
  • Update Revolution Sports theme for WP 2.7
  • Update Revolution theme for WP 2.7
  • Update Revolution Pro Business theme for WP 2.7
  • Release the Revolution Streamline theme beta version

What if the Revolution One Themes Came Back?

In light of the recent discussions about premium themes and the WordPress community, and also in conjunction to a very special interview with Matt Mullenweg, I wanted to ask you all something.

What if I brought back the Revolution One themes for purchase?

Now, before you answer, just read through this post so that it all makes sense. I understand back when I made my announcement that a lot of people who purchased the All Inclusive package were upset because they felt as though they didn’t get their money’s worth since I was shutting down the site. I extended out to the the Pro Plus package on the new site at no charge, as a way of saying thanks.

Here’s what I am possibly considering…

Since I am in the development of launching a new theme site, I thought I would bring the original Revolution themes back for sale on there as well. These themes would be updated for WordPress 2.7 and made available to the people who are still looking for them. I really do think that would be a win-win for the WordPress community, because it brings back a number of high quality themes into the community, as well as provide up to date versions for those who’ve purchased it already.

With the amount of themes that I have been developing, this would ultimately be a place where themes can be purchased under the GPL license and then all support for themes developed by me would ultimately be in the same location. I would also be able to refer out more theme customization requests to those of you who have independent design companies, and this would help build out the “eco-system” of the WordPress community.

By bringing them back…

It would allow me to provide more forum moderators, quicker support and ultimately a better selection of themes that you can choose from. For anyone who purchased an All Inclusive or Pro Plus package, you would receive access to and support for all of my themes at no additional charge.

I really want to respond to the enormous amount of feedback I’ve received over the past few months about shutting down the original themes. If I did so, of course I would do my best to make this a fair transition, and that I would continue to develop new themes as well as innovate and enhance the ones that are currently available.

So, I just want you to be honest, and tell me what you all think…
